Confessions of a Permanent Makeup Artist

The reality of being in the PMU industry and being totally obsessed with it is that I make brow contact with people way before I make eye contact. Generally, while I am chatting to someone I am also secretly doing their brows in my head. I just can’t help it.

There are many of us out there that have needed a little help with their brows along the way, myself included, so when I see a set of brows that could do with a little tweak, it’s automatic!!

So let’s be honest, who didn’t overpluck their brows in the 90’s? Anyone? Nope, didn’t think so.

Unfortunately, once they are gone it can be really tricky to get them to grow back again!  Over plucking the brow hair can cause permanent damage to the hair follicle, to the point where it can no longer grow new hair.

Now, trends change - it is definitely not fashionable anymore to have rounded, razor thin brows circa the 90’s. Big and bold brows are trending at the moment, and this can be a strong look, but this is not going to suit everyone, nor will it be on trend forever.

So what is the perfect brow? It means something different to everyone, but ideally the perfect brow should sit on the actual

brow bone and should frame the eyes without dragging them down and should balance and compliment your features, whilst taking into account your facial dimensions.

There are so many brows products on the market nowadays: pencils, pomades, powders, gels, serums for growth and stencils to name but a few - these all have benefits and are usually a cost effective way to boost your natural brows and create fullness and definition, but they only last until the next time you clean your face.

However, if you prefer to wake up with your brows already on your face, then the option of Permanent Makeup can be the way forward. This involves implanting pigment into the skin to create the effect of make up. Again, with so many choices on the market it can be confusing: Natural hair stroke tattoo, also known as microblading, powder brows and ombré brows. Results can look as natural or as striking as you wish, and can massively boost confidence when and if you decide to go without makeup.

If you decide that this is the best option for you then do your research properly. Always go to a reputable practitioner, who is fully insured and licensed by their local council. For a free permanent make up consultation with me, please contact me directly
